Arms belonging to Tripura militants recovered from Assam jungles

Silchar, Sep 2 (UNI) Security forces seized arms and ammunitions from a hilly area in Karimganj district of Assam near Tripura border today. The arms in question belong to suspected National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants, police said.

A senior police official in Karimganj said acting on a tip-off, cops from Assam and Tripura police and 15th battalion of Assam Rifles jointly raided the jungles of Khasiapunjee hamlet in Karimganj district of Assam, near Tripura's Churaibari border point in the afternoon of Tuesday. In course of the search operation, the cops unearthed one 2-inch mortar, five powerful bombs, two rivolbars, two warless sets, one carbine, unspecified quantity of cartage and other devices hidden in a bunker.

No militant was however arrested in this connection, neither there was any resistance from other side during the course of operation, said O-C of Patharkandi police station (Assam) G P Bania.

The devices have been brought to Churaaibari police station in Triura. The bombs are being examined and will be defused later by the experts from Army, he added.

Operation is on in the jungles after recovery of the arms and ammunitions to nab the suspected militants involved in it, the police official said.
