Alert police personnel foil prisoners' bid to escape

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 3 (UNI) Alert Armed Reserved Police personnel foiled an attempt to escape by two remand prisoners at Pudukkottai here last night.

Police said Suresh (23) of Usilampatti and another prisoner Arokyadas (28) of Madurai were lodged in the Bastal prison at Pudukottai, in connection with a theft case.

Police said three Armed Reserve police personnel took the two accused to Madurai to complete routine judicial formalities and brought them back to Pudukkottai when the incident occurred.

When they reached the prison, electricity went off. Utilising the opportunity, Suresh managed to escape from the police personnel and ran away under the cover of darkness. But one of the police personnel Vaitheeswaran gave a hot chase and apprehended the prisoner. He sustained serious injuries on his hand when the prisoner bit him badly.

The other prisoner Arogyadas also attempted to escape. But the police men overpowered and captured the two prisoners.

The injured police personnel was admitted to the Government hospital here. Police are investigating.
