Nun seeks help from Women's Commission
Thrissur, Sep 2 (UNI) Sister Jesmi, who resigned as a Catholic nun following alleged mental harassment by the Church authorities, today sought the help of the Kerala State Commission for Women to have a mechanism to rehabilitate those who gave up their vow.
The demand was raised when Commission member Meenakshi Thamban visited Sr Jesmi, member of the congregation of Mother of Carmel and principal of St. Mary's college here who resigned from the Order last Saturday after 26 years of service as a nun.
Sr Jesmi said she had applied for voluntary retirement from the post of principal of St Mary's college.
She took the decision following alleged mental harassment by the Church and convent authorities when she questioned the Church's stand on the self-financing colleges and pertaining to certain other issues.
Sr Jesmi alleged that many nuns were subjected to ill-treatment and they were afraid of challenging it.
