Muslims begin Ramadan fasting in TN

Chennai, Sep 2: Muslims all over the country today started the month-long dawn-to-dusk Ramadan fasting with the faithful spending day and night in prayers and penance.

This follows sighting of the Moon last night.

Mosques and Muslim homes across the country turned lively with believers engaged in 'Namaaz' and recital of the Holy Quran, which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.

Muslims in Kerala, however, began the Ramadan fasting from yesterday along with the people of Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, and most of the Gulf countries.
