DD, a ray of hope for Manipuri film makers

Imphal, Sep 2: The Programme Executive of Doordarshan Kendra here Manibabu Likmabam today said Doordarshan provides ample opportunity to the Manipuri film makers by giving them hope for the survival of Manipuri cinema.

Meghachandra Kongbam, Joint Director, Manipur Information centre said Likmabam will receive the 54th National Film Awards 2006 on behalf of the DD Kendra, Imphal that financed the non-feature TV film, Guru Laimayum Thambalngoubi Devi.

The film, directed by Aribam Syam Sharma was selected as the best biographical film in the 54th National Films Awards.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will give the awards today at 6:00 pm at Vigyan Bhawan , New Delhi.

Mr Likmabam said DD encourages the filmmakers to employ their skills in the commissioned programmes of the Prasar Bharati.

He opined the filmmakers should not think that the commissioned programme are a profit making contractual work rather an artistic work.
