Hyundai Aug sales grow 57.5%; exports by 88.5%

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), country's second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, today said its sales have registered a growth of 57.5 per cent for the month of August 2008.

HMIL's total sales for the month of August 2008 stood at 44,710 units as against 28,394 units in the corresponding period last year.

The domestic sales grew by 33.9 per cent in August to 21,610 units as compared to 16,138 units, while exports grew 88.5 per cent to 23,100 units in August 2008 as compared to 12,256 units in the corresponding period last year.

''Looking at the current market scenario, we are happy with Hyundai's overall sales and this again reinforces our belief that if you have a strong product portfolio, it will see you through even in tough times,'' HMIL Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.

The segment-wise cumulative sales in the month of August 2008 are as follows: A2 segment (Santro, I10, Getz Prime) 38,477 units; A3 segment (Accent, Verna) 6,193 units; A5 segment (Sonata Embera) 37 units; and SUV segment (Tucson) three units.
