New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said any attempt to create confusion on the unauthorised colonies issue by certain elements with vested interests would not be tolerated.

Addressing a gathering at Aya Nagar, where she was felicitated for bringing a positive change in living standard of people in the last 10 years, the Chief Minister said,''some elements are out to stall developmental works in unauthorised colonies and are worried because of a bold decision of the city-government to regularise 1639 unauthorised colonies in one go.'' Expressing commitment of her government to fully develop all unauthorised colonies, Ms Dikshit said,''the government has already spent an amount of Rs 1011 crore out of earmarked amount of Rs.2800 crore for developmental works in unauthorised colonies, which reflects the concern and commitment of people-friendly Delhi Government.'' Speaking at the function, where Rajya Sabha Member Jai Prakash Aggarwal, local MLA Balram Singh Tanwar and number of eminent persons were present, Ms Dikshit reiterated that her government has been serious right from the beginning on the issue of regularisation of colonies.

''The colonies are being regularised to ensure better civic amenities to 40 lakh residents, who have been facing hardship. This issue would not be allowed to be politicised as it relates to lives of lakhs of people who have been staying up in such colonies for more than two decades.

The residents have been watching the developments eagerly and they would not tolerate any hindrance and confusion being created by certain elements only because of their vested interests,''she said.

She stated that construction of roads and drainage is in progress in 524 such colonies whereas water pipelines have been laid in another 407 such colonies. Laying of water pipelines in another 417 colonies is all set to start very soon. Altogether, 1093 such colonies have been electrified whereas 47 colonies were being electrified and scheme of electrification of 76 unauthorised colonies is being given a final shape.

Addressing the gathering, Mr J P Aggarwal complemented the efforts of the Chief Minister in providing large number of modern amenities including Delhi Metro, wide roads, flyovers, super-specialty hospitals, FOBs with escalators.
