Truck operators call for strike in Bengal
Kolkata, Aug 31 (UNI) The Federation of West Bengal Truck Operators Association (FWBTOA) has called for a six-hour strike on September 2 to protest the government's move to phase out 15-year old goods vehicles.
Informing this here today, a joint statement issued by FWBTOA president Mohinder Singh Gill and general secretary Satyajit Majumder said, following the order's imposition, 1.25 lakh out of 2.75 lakh goods vehicles, having the state registration numbers, would be rendered non-operational.
''If the government decides to phase out 15-year old goods vehicles registered before January 1, 1993, then altogether five lakh families would be affected,'' it said.
