MDMK charges DMK govt on rice scheme announcement
Chennai, Aug 31 (UNI) MDMK general secretary Vaiko today said the Rs one a-kg-rice scheme announced by the ruling DMK was nothing but a move to divert the people's attention from a host of issues like rising prices of essential commodities, shortage of petroleum products and power cuts.
In a statement here, he said a majority of the people were not using the rice sold at the fair price shops.
''This will only benefit the ruling partymen to smuggle it to neighbouring states,'' he charged.
The DMK Government, headed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, yesterday announced launching of the Rs one a-kg-rice scheme under the PDS scheme from September 15, the birth centenary of late Chief Minister C N Annadurai.
