NIS is on decline: Kamaljit Sandhu
Patiala, Aug 29 (UNI) "National Institute of Sports is on its last leg, fractured and disabled," said Padam Shree Kamaljit Sandhu, who retired as incharge of the institutes' national coaching camps yesterday after serving for over thirty years.
"NIS has been on the decline ever since it was merged in Sports Authority of India (SAI) which meted out step-motherly treatment to Asia's premier sports institute," said Kamaljit who had joined the institute in June 1977 as athletic coach.
Kamaljit, who is the first Indian woman athlete to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in 1970, had trained India's top national women sprinters who brought laurels to the country during the 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi.
