Mohali, Aug 30 (UNI) A local court today remanded DSP, Haryana police Gurdarshan Singh Sodhi and former army personnel Dara Singh, into police custody till Septenber 1 in a cocaine smuggling case.

Sodhi, DSP (wireless) in telecommunications cell of Haryana Police Headquarter, Panchkula, was arrested on the basis of the statement of Dara Singh, who was nabbed yesterday with 1.23 kg cocaine bag hidden under the seat of his car.

The police, which had booked the duo under NDPS Act today produced the duo in the court of Judicial Magistrate-I class K S Sullar, who sent the two into remand and ordered the police to present him in the court on September 1.

Earlier, the police pleaded for 10-day remand of the two saying that their thorough interrogation could help bust the network of drug smugglers apparently active in the region for sometime.

However, the court turned down the request for a longer period.

Police had arrested Dara Singh after a search of his car, at a check post at Landran-Sonaha road here, led to recovery of the contraband.

During interrogation, Dara Singh disclosed that the narcotic was supplied to him by Sodhi against the payment of Rs 20 lakh as security.

Following the disclosure, a police party had rushed to Panchkula to nab Sodhi and also searched his house in Chandigarh. Police also claimed to have recovered two cheques paid by Dara Singh to Sodhi.
