BSNL to provide 5.75 lakh broadband connections in AP
Vijayawada Aug 30 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Andhra Pradesh Circle Chief General Manager T N Sudhindra Kumar today said about five lakh new broadband connections would be provided in the State by the end of the current fiacal.
Talking to newspersons here, he said as many as 1.85 lakh broadband connections had been provided so far and plans were afoot to expand the connections in the city and rural areas.
Mr Kumar said though private players were posing a threat to the BSNL, the strategy of the company was to go ahead with its expansion plan in order to meet challenges.
He said BSNL had launched two technological schemes namely multiplay and rural broadband.
He said BSNL had 24 lakh landline customers and 2.40 lakh Wireless Local Loop (WLL) connections in the State as on March 31 this year and about 51,000 additional WLL connections had been provided from April one.
Mr Kumar also said from September one the company would introduce 'Grameen-75' plan in the WLL category and the mobile connectios would be increased to 32 lakh from the existing 23.5 lakh by the end of the current fiscal.
The subscriber-base in the mobile connection category would be increased soon across the State, as the company had introduced a pre-paid plan of Rs 225, he added.
