Warrants issued in Uphaar case executed: CBI tells SC
New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) The CBI today informed the Supreme Court that bailable warrants issued by the Court against Ansal brothers in Uphaar theatre tragedy case have been executed.
Senior counsel Harish Salve appearing for CBI informed a bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and G S Singhvi that the orders of the Court have been complied with.
On the last date of hearing, the apex court had expressed its unhappiness when the bench was informed that bailable warrants issued against Sushil Ansal, Gopal Ansal and their two employees Nirmal Singh Chopra and Ajay Choudhary have not been executed.
The apex court adjourned the hearing till September 1.
Ansal brothers have been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the trial court for criminal negligence.
Fifty nine people were suffocated to death on June 13, 1997, when fire broke out in Uphaar theatre in Green Park in South Delhi.
