Congress gaining momentum ahead of Assembly elections
Aizawl, Aug 29 (UNI) Former Mizo National Front minister K Thangzualla was today admitted to the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee at the unit level at his Chanmari locality, party sources said.
He would be officially inducted to Aizawl Congress Bhavan on September 2, they said.
Mr Thangzualla had defeated then Chief Minister and MPCC president Lal Thanhawla in the latter's traditional Serchhip constituency in 1998 elections, creating history in Mizoram politics.
Along with Mr Thangzualla, Zoram Nationalist Party legislator Andrew Lalherliana would also be inducted into the Congress in next week's ceremony.
Mr Andrew is expected to tender his resignation as Khawzawl MLA to the Assembly Speaker on September 1.
The nine-MLA Pradesh Congress has already been enriched with two MLAs with the return of Congress splinter group Mizoram Congress Party (MCP) into the parent party a few months back. The two MCP legislators (former ally of ruling Mizo National Front), Liansuama and Saikapthianga have requested the Assembly Speaker to allocate seat in the Opposition bench.
