Rupee ends low at 43.78 against greenback

Mumbai, Aug 28 (UNI) The Rupee today ended weaker at 43.78/80 per dollar with a loss of four paise from the previous close of 43.74/76, as refiners stepped up dollar purchases but fears of central bank intervention kept traders wary.

The indian unit resumed high at 43.77, later, it fluctuated in a narrow range between 43.65 and 43.80 during the session.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today fixed the reference rate for US dollar at Rs 43.73 per unit, remaining steady at yesterday's rate, also of Rs 43.73 per dollar.

The six-month and annualised forward dollar premium was quoted higher at 3.20 (2.94) per cent and 2.74 (2.55) per cent, respectively.

The Rupee ended the day at 64.62/64 (64.34/36) per unit against the Euro. It closed at 80.32/34 (80.60/62 ) per unit against the Pound Sterling. Rupee ended at 39.96/98 (39.90/92) per hundred units against the Japanese Yen.
