One arrested for possessing suspicious substance in Meghalaya
Shillong, Aug 28 (UNI) The Meghalaya police arrested a person and seized a packet of suspected uranium from his possession.
Police said here today the miscreant was arrested yesterday while he was trying to sell the powdery substance, adding that investigation was on to ascertain whether the suspicious substance was enriched uranium.
Meanwhile, police sent the consignment, having the inscription ''Not meant for sale. Explosive No 2004/99E and Uranium Volta 325(6)'' to a forensic laboratory in Guwahati.
Earlier, the state police had arrested five people attempting to sell a kilogram of ''yellow cake uranium''.
In the past, uranium thefts had been reported from Meghalaya.
However, AMD officials, after investigation, confirmed that the seized consignments were not uranium.
