Two killed, 20 injured in CRPF firing and teargassing in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 27 (UNI) Two people were killed and 20 others wounded when CRPF and police opened fire, burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge during relaxation period in the valley today.

A report from Baramulla said people at Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara took to the streets when security forces beat up two people this afternoon.

However, when the protestors were raising pro freedom slogans and were marching towards the main town, they were stopped by the security forces.

Security forces opened fire to disperse the demonstrators who were pelting stones, sources said adding one Mohammad Yousuf Ganai was killed after he was hit by a bullet.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Rafiq and 10 others were injured in the stone pelting and lathicharge.

Security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators at Soibugh in the central Kashmir district of Badgam this afternoon.

One person was killed and several others were wounded in the firing and lathicharge, they said.

About ten people were injured when CRPF and police burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge at Rainawari during curfew relaxation this afternoon.

The trouble there started when CRPF allegedly beat up a woman and another person without any provocation during relaxation period.

Later CRPF personnel gate crashed into the house of 75-year-old priest Haji Noor Mohammad Mugloo and beat up the inmates, including men and women. The house hold goods were also ransacked by the CRPF personnel, they alleged.

The CRPF personnel also entered half a dozen other houses in the area and beat up the inmates and damaged households.

Reports of protests were also received from other places.
