Raj steps up campaign on signboard issue
Mumbai, Aug 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray today stepped up his campaign for Marathi signboards on shops and establishments in the metropolis and warned those not putting up the boards, latest by tomorrow, would face the wrath of his party.
The MNS activists have circulated letters to various police stations, signed by Mr Thackeray, asking the Marathi policemen to be soft while handling the party workers, who are campaigning for Marathi signboards.
Police personnel have been asked to think before using lathi-charge against the activists as the campaign was for the betterment of Marathi language.
However, Deven Bharti, Deputy Commissioner of police (crime) said he did not have any knowledge of such letters, but warned strict action will be taken against those breaking the law.
