Police in border areas told to be alert about passport papers
Moga, Aug 27 (UNI) In wake of the passport scandal here, Inspector General Police R P Meena has directed the SSPs in the region consisting of Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Moga districts, to overhaul security branches dealing with the verification process of the passport seekers.
Police must be extra vigilant and SP, Headquarters would oversee the process of passport verification to avoid recurrence of incidents like the Moga passport scandal in which about 200 passports were issued on the basis of forged certificates, he said in a communique issued today.
Forged and tampered passport verifications reports were issued on behalf of the district police chiefs by at least three head constables of Moga security branch including Ranjit Singh, Gurdial Singh and Jaswinder Singh in connivance with the one Moga post man and one Didar Singh of regional passport office, Chandigarh.
The case was registered against the accused on the complaint of one police official of the department.
