Justice Mathur appointed Chairman of Armed Forces Tribunal
New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) Three weeks after his retirement from the Supreme Court, Justice Ashok Kumar Mathur has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Armed Forces Tribunal, Defence Ministry said today.
Justice Mathur,65, who was elevated to the apex court on June 7, 2004 and retired on August 6, will hold his new office for four years or till he attains the age of 70 years, whichever falls earlier, the Ministry said in a statement.
Justice Mathur, began his legal career in Rajasthan in 1967 and held the office of additional advocate general in 1981 before his appointment as a judge of the High Court there in 1985. He became the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1996, the statement added.
