4 Lankan Tamil youths land at Indian Naval Jetty

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu Aug 27 (UNI) Four Sri Lankan Tamil refugees by mistake landed at the Indian Naval Jetty, a prohibited high security zone in this Island Town today.

Official sources said Lankan nationals Roopan, Jayakumar, Siva Roopan and Gnanakumar, all in their twenties, arrived at the Naval jetty in a hi-speed fibreglass boat mistaking it for a fishing jetty.

They hailed from Kilinochi Region in Sri Lanka. After a detailed probe, the Naval personnel handed them over to Tamil Nadu Police for further interrogation.

The youths confessed they preferred to take refuge in Tamil Nadu fearing compulsory recruitment by LTTE in view of fierce fighting between the Sri Lankan forces and Tamil rebels in the Island nation.

Later, all the four youths were sent to the Special Refugee Camp for Sri Lankan Tamils at Mandapam.
