UP govt urged to provide facilities to political prisoners
Lucknow, Aug 25 (UNI) Loktantrik Rakshak Senani Organisation, a group fighting for the revival of allowances and other benefits given to the political prisoners during Emergency, has alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government was not implementing the order of the Allahabad High Court.
The organisation's general secretary and spokesman Mahavir Singh told mediapersons here that despite the Allahabad High Court staying the BSP government decision to cancel the free bus travel by the Emergency prisoners, the government was yet to notify it.
He also alleged that some people were threatening him for fighting the case against the government.
In the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in the state, the government had announced to give Rs 1,000 monthly pension, free bus travel and medicines to about 7,000 people who were in jail under MISA or DIR during Emergency.
However, after Ms Mayawati came to power in the state, the government had rejected the monthly allowances and the free bus travel. The Allahabad High Court on August 21 had ordered the state government to revive the free bus travel to the beneficieries.
