Petrol pump owner shot at, looted

Hoshiarpur, Aug 25 (UNI) Armed robbers shot at a petrol pump owner and robbed him of Rs one lakh last night near a railway crossing at village Chack Alla Baksh in Mukerian sub-division of this district.

SP (Detective) Sushil Kumar said that Prempal Guddu stopped his car at the closed railway crossing on way to his home last night when two youths on motor-cycle suddenly snatched a bag containing Rs one lakh from him.

When Mr Guddu came out of the car to grapple with the robbers, one of them fired a volley of shots on him and the duo fled after taking his bag.

Mr Guddu, who received two bullets in his abdomen, was taken to government hospital, Mukerian from where he was referred to DMC, Ludhiana, where he was ''stable'' after two bullets were removed after an operation, the SP said.

Police was actively searching for the assailants, he added.
