Eye Bank Society celebrates National Fortnight on Eye Donation

Chandigarh, Aug 25 (UNI) Eye Bank Society, Chandigarh, organized a function to celebrate the 23rd National Fortnight on Eye Donation at the Advanced Eye Center at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research ( PGIMER) here today.

Mr Pradip Mehra, Adviser to the Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, who was the chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the refurbished New Eye Bank Facility at the Advanced Eye Center. He released a souvenir to mark the occasion.

Eye Bank Society Website was also launched with the Adviser becoming the first e-donor.

Mr Mehra on the occasion revealed that only 36,000 eyes were donated in the last year countrywide. Thus there was a need to educate people for the noble cause. He assured of all possible help by the Administration for the cause.

The Adviser presented Award of Appreciation to President, National Association for Blinds, Chandigarh.

PGIMER Director K.K. Talwar on the occasion said that the volunteers who donate their eyes should be acknowledged for their noble initiative. In his address, Professor and Head of Advanced Eye Center, Dr Amod Gupta, said that the center has all the state-of-the-art facilities comparable to any other centre in the country.
