Woman held for cheating two people of Rs 92,000
Nagpur, Aug 24 (UNI) A woman has been arrested on charge of cheating two people of Rs 92,000 on the pretext of getting them jobs in a local cooperative credit society, police said today.
Savita Dharmapal Manwatkar (55), was arrested late last week for allegedly cheating Durga Mahesh Manwatkar and Mamata Nagdive with claims that she could get them jobs as clerks in the society. Savita took Rs 60,000 from Durga and another Rs 32,000 from Mamata for the same, they said.
The two were later given a handwritten 'appointment letter' on the society's letterhead, signed by Chairman Taru Naidu, police said.
However, the two women were never given the jobs, they said.
Later, Savita promised to return the money and even gave a written assurance on a stamp paper, but to little avail, police said.
An offence has been registered against Savita and Naidu under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police added.
