Tuticorin Port records highest single-day handling

Tuticorin, Aug 24 (UNI) The Tuticorin Port has handled a record single-day output performance of 1,16,595 metric tonnes of cargo on yesterday, surpassing the previous record handling of 1,13,327 metric tonne achieved on February 16, 2008.

The record output was composition of coal, general cargo and containersised cargo, a release said here today.

The port was marching ahead to achieve its target of 240.60 lakh tonnes for the year 2008-09, it said.

Mr G J Rao, Chairman, Tuticorin Port Trust, congratulated and thanked all the port users, trade union leaders, officers and employees and the TPTCHLP workers for extending their cooperation to achieve the record handling.
