Manipur reels under essentials, fuel shortage
Imphal, Aug 24 (UNI) Manipur has been facing shortage of fuel and essential commodities following landslides in Nagaland, which blocked National Highway 39, the lifeline of the state.
Prices of essential commodities, especially rice, had skyrocketted and all the oil depots in the state were closed down.
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Chief Secretary Rakesh had been urging the Nagaland government to allow movement of vehicles carrying essential items towards Manipur, officials said.
The Nagaland government had stopped the passage of vehicles through NH 39, resulting in around 400 Imphal-bound vehicles being stranded at Nagaland and Assam.
In the wake of the crisis faced by the people of Manipur, the Nagaland government might consider allowing vehicles carrying essenials to the state, the officials further informed.
