Mani Mahesh Yatra begins; thousands take dip in holy lake

Shimla, Aug 24 (UNI) The fortnight-long Mani Mahesh pilgrimage began here today with about 20,000 pilgrims taking a dip in holy Bharani lake today.

Every year about 10 lakh devotees trek for 12-hour to cover 13 km steep track to take a dip in about 13500 feet high holy lake of Mani Mahesh.

According to ADM, N K Lath, Chamba administration had made adequate arrangement for the pilgrims expected during the yatra which would end on September 8.

According to district administration, the Yatra arrangements were being supervised by the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendents of Police.

A number of devotees from the Doda District of Jammu and Kashmir were also participating in the pilgrimage.
