Amarnath protestor ''attempts'' suicide in Jammu
Jammu, Aug 24 (UNI) A protestor of the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) today allegedly ''attempted'' to commit suicide in Tehsil Bishnah on the city outskirts, 30 km from here, official sources said.
''The protestor allegedly consumed some poisonous substance demanding the restoration of the land back to the Shrine Board,'' the sources told UNI and added that he was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College, Jammu.
''Doctors washed his stomach and kept him under observation.
His condition was stated to be stable when the last reports came in,'' the sources added.
The protestor had been identified as Sunny Gupta, 25, resident of Bishnah.
Police sources, meanwhile, said the matter was being investigated to know the ground realities behind ''attempting'' suicide.
This is reportedly fourth incident of ''attempting'' suicide over the Amarnath land issue following Kuldeep Kumar Verma, Dr Balwant Khajuria, who sacrificed their lives demanding the land back while Jitendera Mehra of R S Pura also made an abortive bid on his life.
