Third front PM candidate only after Lok Sabha polls : AIFB
Lucknow, Aug 23 (UNI) All India Forward Block(AIFB), a Left Front constituent has asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today to clarify her stand against the BJP and Congress for a viable third front in the country, though the Front denied it projected the Bahujan Samaj Party supremo as the Prime Ministerial candidate.
''Mayawati should support the Left parties in their tirade against the Congress and BJP, besides strengthening the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) for a strong third alternative in the country'', AIFB general secretary Debabrata Biswas here said.
Mr Biswas, a Rajya Sabha member, who is here to attend the two-day special national council meeting of the party, said neither the Left Front had discussed the Mayawati issue nor would do so in future. ''The PM candidate issue can only be discussed after the Lok Sabha polls and only if UNPA emerges as a strong contender,''he pointed out.
He said these regional caste-based parties had no strict political ideology and in the past there were several instances that these parties joined either the BJP or Congress for their vested political interest.
Mr Biswas, however, expressed happiness over Mayawati supporting the Left front on the nuclear deal and said more was required from the BSP leader in the coming times to prove her credentials.
