Tamil Nadu: Renovation works at GOC

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 23: The Railway Board had granted permission to set up an exclusive shed for housing high Horse Power diesel locomotives at the Goldenrock Railway Workshop (GOC) here, Southern Railway Chief Mechanical Engineer V Carmelus said today.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Carmelus said the GOC would submit a detailed project report for replacing the existing metre gauge diesel loco shed with a sophisticated one, at an estimated cost of Rs five crore. The works would be completed in two years' period.

The Board had also sanctioned Rs 12 crore for establishing a centralised training centre at Tondiyarpet in Chennai to provide high-tech training to diesel loco mechanics.

Mr Carmelus, who is also the State Chief Commissioner for the Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts and Guides Movement, said it was proposed to establish a world-class camping centre for Bharat Scout Movement at Kethi in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 49 lakh, for which about four acres land was had been identified.
