Police canecharges Allahabad varsity students; 30 held

Lucknow, Aug 23 (UNI) Police today resorted to canecharged students protesting the union election at Allahabad University in Uttar Pradesh.

At least 30 students, who reportedly belonged to the Congress have been arrested for indulging in violent protest over their demands.

SSP Lalji Shukla said police had to resort to lathicharge after the students started throwing stones on the policemen, vandalised PAC and other police vehicles.

Earlier, they had gheraoed the Allahabad University Vice Chancellor.
