Influx issue always raked up before polls: Assam Guv

Guwahati, Aug 23 (UNI) As Assam continued to simmer over the illegal Bangladesh's infiltration issue, state Governor Shiv Charan Mathur today said though the problems persisted at all times, some quarters prefer to rake it up afresh only before elections. ''The infiltration problem is an old and ongoing problem of the state, but it is raked up before every election. This time also it would be done before the general elections next year,'' Mr Mathur said.

Conceding that the fencing work along Indo-Bangladesh border was progressing at a slow pace, he said, '' The progress has been slow, but both the Central as well as state governments are trying their best to complete it.'' The Governor stated that the river border was the toughest part for checking infiltration and floating BoPs and watch towers could be the only solutions.
