Bihar Congress demands early students union elections

Patna, Aug 23 (UNI) Bihar Pradesh Congress today criticised the Nitish Kumar government for not holding any college or university students body elections in the state for long and charged him with not being sensitive about student related issues.

Addressing his first press conference here after assuming the charge, new BPCC Chief Anil Kumar Sharma said a party delegation would soon meet Governor R L Bhatia to place its demand for an early students body elections in all colleges and universities in the state.

'' Since the Chief Minister was never an elected students leader, he is not aware of the democratic rights of the students community as a whole,'' he said.

Mr Sharma said in order to make the students more aware about their rights and privilages through such elections,the BPCC would soon organise a statewide awarness programme.

Reiterating his commitment to make the party stronger in Bihar, the new BPP Chief said he would appeal to every partymen to bring in at least one person into the party fold everyday.

'' We would invite Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to formally inaugurate the programme,'' Mr Sharma announced.
