Rs 9,000 cr capex allotted for the the third terminal at IGI

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) A sum of Rs 9,000 crore has been enmarked for the third runway at IGI Airport which is expected to be ready before the Commonwealth Games.

''A sum of Rs 9,000 crore has been enmarked for the third runway at IGI Airport which is expected to be ready before the Commonwealth Games,'' Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said while inaugurating the third runway for trials here today.

All the civil work, airfield lighting and marking has been done and calibration work by the Airports Authority of India will be over soon.

The new terminal would be able to handle 37 million passengers per year.

By end-2010 or early the next year, four international carriers-Emirates, British Airways, Lufthansa and Air France are likely to start their A380 service to Delhi from Dubai, London, Frankfurt and Paris.

The two new airports at Bangalore and Hyderabad are also capable of handling the A380.
