Rain-triggered incidents claimed 67 lives
Lucknow, Aug 20 (UNI) At least 67 people were killed and 30 others grievously injured in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports from Sitapur, over 12 houses collapsed in six tehsils of the district killing 15 and injuring over 12 people.
Nine livestocks also met fatal end in the incident.
Sighauli SDM Mrityunjay Rai said two girls were buried alive in the debris of their house in Alipur Majra Haraiya, whereas, an old woman and a minor succumbed after the shed of a 'kachcha makan' fell on them in Kabra village.
In Mahmodabad tehsil, three died including a boy after wall caved in. In Daulatpur and Angriya village, a two-year-old was suffocated to death and six others sustained wounds after the roofs of their shelters fell on them, SDM added.
In Sitapur nagar kotwali area at Dalawal village, two people were choked to death, including a 65-year-old and as many sustained injuries in a house collapse incident. In Akbarpur village of Khairabad area, a man was buried alive and in Lakahpur area, a woman and two others died and four others injured as a result of house collapse.
In Mirzapur, a family of three in Jagdishpura village of Jamalpour area and two others in Babura village in Vindhyachal area were buried in the debris of their house, whereas, one in Belwariya village and a child in Jigna area died after their house collapsed.
In another incident, a youth drowned while swimming in swelled Kalkaliya river in Sariya village of Mahraura area.
In Mainpuri, one Laxmi and his brother Azad succumbed after a wall of their house fell on them at Khaderiya village in Aucha area this noon. Whereas, a 55-year-old drowned while bathing in a pond in Ambedkarnagar kotwali area.
In Barabanki, a woman and her son died and four others were injured in Deva area after their house collapsed, whereas, a youth was buried alive under house debris in Bakshi-ka-talab of the state capital.
In Pratapgarh, a man died and five others were injured after a dilapidated house collapsed at Pooreshankar village in Lalganj area.
Nine people were buried alive under the debris of a collapsed house in Varanasi, followed by three in Azamgarh, two each in Gonda, Bahraich and Badaun, reports reaching here from the districts said.
One each in Agra, Ferozabad, Basti, Etah and Sant Kabirnagar fell victim to wall collapse, while a man drowned in a nullah in Gorakhpur.
