Mother claims 4-year-old skeleton of her daughter
Shillong, Aug 20 (UNI) A mother has identified the skeletal remains of her daughter, found deep inside an abandoned coal mine after four years.
Police said here today that Philis Sna, of Mupliang village under Jowai police station in Meghalaya, identified the remains of her daughter, Nangroi Sna, who went missing since 2004.
The skeleton of the girl was recovered by police from the 80-feet deep inside coal mine at Moolamanoh on August 12, after it was spotted by some miners, Jaintia Hills District SP Mukesh Singh said.
''The mother claimed that she had recognised her daughter from the remains of the clothes on the skeleton that lay inside the mine,'' he added.
Mr Singh said, however, to ascertain the mother's claim, some parts of the skeleton would be sent to Kolkata for DNA test to establish the age and gender of the skeleton.
Soon after the ''identification'', the district police appealed to the court to reopen the case against the mine owner Sniawbha Siangshai and her brother Risa alias Ngew Siangshai.
Nangroi had been working as a house help with Ngew since 2001.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the missing girl had filed a fresh FIR against the mine owners.
