Five buried alive in Wokha in Nagaland
Kohima Aug 20: At least, five road construction workers were buried alive and three injured when a huge chunk of dollop earth fell on the outskirts of Akuk village under Wokha district of Nagaland, official sources today informed.
While the victims were busy in cutting earth with a JCB (bulldozer) last evening, a huge chunk of earth came down due to blasting of stones with dynamites on the upper side of the road and buried eight of the workers, the sources said.
Three of them were rescued with injuries and admitted to hospital, while the rest, including the driver of the JCB, remained buried under the earth, they added.
According to the sources, the earth was loose in the entire area due to heavy rains on Monday.
Village head of Akuk village Mhonbemo Kithan said it was not possible to remove such a huge chunk of earth manually.
In order to unearth the bodies, they were waiting for another JCB to come from Merapani under Golaghat district of Assam, Mr Kithan added.
