50,000 bank employees in Gujarat join trade unions' strike
Ahmedabad, Aug 20 (UNI) Around 50,000 workers from the banking sector in Gujarat today joined the nationwide strike, called by the Left-backed trade unions, partially affecting the day-to-day functioning of the banks.
The bank employees are protesting against the government policy of mergers and privatization of banks, a press release issued by MahaGujarat Bank Employees' Association said.
The bank employees took out a rally this morning and held demonstrations here.
Eight trade unions and 40 employees' federations are participating in the strike to protest the anti-labour policies of the Centre.
