Record power generation by BBMB power houses

Nangal, Aug 19 (UNI) Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) power houses have achieved record power generation in a single day thanks to the increased water level in various dams which are under the control of BBMB.

According to sources, the BBMB power houses at Bhakra dam, Dehar, Pong dam, Ganguwal and Kotla generated 594.56 lakh units yesterday, which is an all time record power generation for BBMB.

Sources said that the generation at Bhakra Dam power houses was 314.95 lakh units yesterday . It was 151.10 lakh units at Dehar power house in Himachal Pradesh and 98.50 lakh units at Pong Dam power house while the generation at Ganguwal and Kotla power houses was 12.13 lakh units and 17.95 lakh units respectively.

Sources said that BBMB authorities have increased the generation at their power houses to avoid spillage of water in Sutlej through flood gates due to rising water level in the dams. The increased generation has resulted in another record power generation by BBMB power houses.

The water level in Bhakra dam was 1671.41 feet which is nine feet short from the maximum storage level of 1,680 feet and is 30 feet higher than last years level on August 19. The water inflow in Bhakra has receded to 53,000 cusecs while outflow has been increased to 36,000 cusecs.

BBMB officials maintained that though the immediate threat of spillage has been avoided but all depends upon the weather conditions in next fortnight. The filling season of the reservoirs is upto September 20 and maximum storage capacity of Bhakra dam is 1680 feet.

The water level in Pong dam is 1,380 feet as against 1,361 feet on August 19 last year. The maximum storage level of Pong dam is 1390 feet.
