Jammu Kashmir sets up its first consumer helpline

{image-j&k_19082008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Srinagar, Aug 19: For the first time ever, the Jammu and Kashmir government has set up a helpline for providing essential commodities and medicines to the people in the Kashmir valley. People having any problem relating to supplies of essential commodities, medicine or petroleum products should contact the helpline for immediate action, an official spokesman said on Tuesday, Aug 19.

About the allegation of economic blockade, he said from July 30 till Tuesday, Aug 19, 2759 trucks and other load carriers with essential supplies and petroleum products had arrived. Of these 948 with rice, 257 chicken, 351 sheep, 63 flour, 9 mustard oil, 5 sugar, 41 wheat, six milk, 186 LPG, 272 petrol, 405 diesel and 216 kerosene oil.

He said similarly 1897 trucks loaded with fresh fruit, 327 vegetables and 1041 others also left from here during the same period.

Meanwhile, the director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) has also asked consumers to contact assistant directors of their respective districts in case of any shortage of rice, sugar, Kerosene oil and atta.

He admitted that due to disturbed conditions, the department faced problems in dispatching these articles to different public distribution stores in the valley.
