Chennai, Aug 19: The Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday, Aug 19 announced that bus services of the state transport corporation would be maintained as usual on Wednesday, Aug 20, following the general strike called by major trade unions against the 'anti-people policies' of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.

While pledging moral support to the strike, Transport Minister K N Nehru, in a statement here said, transport workers would not join the strike and buses would be plied as usual.

Seven trade unions, including the CPI-M affiliated Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and the CPI-affiliated All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) have called for a strike.
