SBI officers observe token strike to protest SBS's merger
Kolkata, Aug 18 (UNI) Officers of the State Bank of India observed a day's strike in West Bengal today as part of their nationwide programme in protest against the Government's decision to merge the State Bank of Saurashtra(SBS), an associate bank, with SBI.
''We are opposing the government's move to merge State Bank of Saurashtra with SBI. This is against the interest of common people,'' SBI Officers' Association (Bengal Circle) General Secretary S K Haldar said.
Mr Haldar alleged that the proposed merger, if executed, would reduce the number of branches affecting banking service.
The Centre's decision had already been delayed because of opposition from various SBI unions.
