Lakhs offer night-long prayers on Shab-e-Baraat in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 18 (UNI) Lakhs of people offered night-long prayers in different mosques, khankhas and other holy places in the Kashmir valley on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat.
The main prayer meeting was held at Hazratbal shrine, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad, where thousands of people joined the night-long prayers.
People from different parts of the valley arrived at Hazratbal last night despite strike to join the prayers.
Similar night-long prayers were held at historic Jamia masjid, Jenab sahib Soura, Shahre Kalashpora, Hazrat Syed Yaqub Sarfi just near the United Nations Military Observers (UNMO) office at Sonawar which is the focus of attention today as Hurriyat Conference (HC) leaders are scheduled to present a memorandum to officials there.
The prayers were also held in local mosques, khankhas and other holy places in the summer capital and all other major towns in the valley.
The prayers passed off peacefully and there was no report of any untoward incident, officials said.
