SIMI activists sent to 14 day police custody
Ahmedabad, Aug 17: The nine activists of the banned outfit SIMI or Students Islamic Organisation of India, arrested in Gujarat in connection with the Ahmedabad serial blasts, were on Sunday, August 17 sent to 14-day police custody by a local court in Ahmedabad.
They were produced before a metropolitan magistrate here under tight security. Official sources said the prosecution will seek maximum police remand to unravel the conspiracy behind the July 26 blasts in Ahmedabad which claimed 55 lives, and the planting of bombs in Surat.Gujarat police had on Saturday, Aug 16 claimed to have cracked the blasts case with the arrest of Abu Bashar, the alleged mastermind, from Uttar Pradesh, and the nine others belonging to the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
