Landslides damage several houses and roads in Kohima

Kohima, Aug 17 (UNI) Landslides trigerred by incessant rainfall since the past few days in the state capital have damaged several houses and roads, including NH 39.

Official sources said here today that landslides have been reported in Daklane, New Market, Officer's Hill, Naga hospital colony and PR Hill areas.

However, there was no report of any casualty so far.

A house was damaged in the PR Hill area on Tuesday. However, the residents had a narrow escape as no one was inside the house, when the mudslide occurred.

A wall collapsed yesterday in the Daklane area damaging several houses.

A stretch of NH 39, between Zubza and Kohima, was partially damaged and heavy vehicles were not allowed to pass on the road.

Meanwhile, Border Road Task Force (BRTF) personnel were deployed to dump boulders and dry earth to enable movement of light traffic.

Talking to UNI, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio alleged that the problems had arisen due to the negligence of the BRTF engineers, who took up the repair work during the rainy season and the situation had now gone beyond their control.
