President medal to SP A Kaliyamurthy
Tiruchirapalli, Aug 15: District Superintendent of Police A Kaliyamurthy has been selected for the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service for 2008.
A police press release said here on Friday, Aug 15 Mr Kaliamurthy, who joined the police force in 1976, has served in various positions. His daring arrest of three LTTE militants,and seizure of wireless sets and explosives in 1991 in the aftermath of the assassination of Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi earned him the Chief Minister Gallantry Medal.
He was instrumental in the arrest of Muslim fundamentalists involved in the bomb blasts in three express trains at Erode, Tiruchirapalli and Trichur on December six, 1997.
Mr Kaliyamurthy has been awarded 27 Meritorious Service Entry and 150 Good Service Entry Medals, the release added.
