President, Vice-President greet nation on Raksha Bandhan

New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Vice-President Hamid Ansari today greeted people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

In her message on the occasion, the President said,''the festival of Raksha Bandhan symbolises love, affection and mutual trust between brothers and sisters. May the spirit of this unique festival strengthen fraternal feelings in our society and remind us of the importance of unity as we strive collectively for the well-being of our people.'' In his message to the people of India on Raksha Bandhan, the Vice-President said, ''The festival promotes the feelings of peaceful coexistence and harmonious social life by reaffirming our faith in the traditional values of love and protection.'' Let us imbibe the ideals associated with this festival to foster the spirit of amity, harmony and goodwill in our lives, he said.
