Haryana Governor calls for maintaining spirit of progress
Gurgaon, Aug 15 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today called upon the people to take a pledge on this historic occasion to maintain the sprit of progress.
Paying his respect and tributes to the known and unknown freedom fighters and martyrs of the national freedom struggle on the occasion of the 62ng Independence day here, the Governor said that India was a free country because of their sacrifices. He said that after attaining freedom, the country had made unprecedented progress in all fields in which the people of Haryana played a significant role.
Earlier, Dr Kidwai laid a wreath at the War Memorial situated in the premises of John Hall here and paid tributes to all martyrs.
The Governor later unfurled the national flag and took salute of an impressive march past of the police, NCC Cadets, Home Guards and girl guides.
School children also kept the audience spellbound by their presentation of a mass PT display and a cultural programme. The Governor announced an amount of Rs 1.51 lakh for the school children who participated in the function and an equal amount for the police jawans who gave a PT display.
He also announced a holiday for tomorrow for all schools in Gurgaon district.
In the function, Dr Kidwai also honoured the freedom fighters and the widows of the freedom fighters by presenting them shawls .
He also presented cheques of Rs 2.5 lakh each to the family members of two martyrs, Subedar Mukesh Kumar and Anil Kumar of the district.
He also honoured 19 persons of the district for their outstanding performance in various fields.
