20 injured in CRPF-Police firing in old city
Srinagar, Aug 15 (UNI) At least twenty people were injured when CRPF and police opened fire, burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators at Habba Kadal, in the old city this afternoon.
Official sources said hundreds of people took to streets at Habba Kadal raising pro-freedom slogans.
However, when they marched towards civil lines, CRPF and police resorted to lathicharge, but to no effect.
Later, security forces opened fire and police burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators.
Sources said twenty people were injured. Out of the injured, one had bullet wounds while four others were hit by teargas shells.
The injured have been admitted to SMHS hospital.
Sources said earlier in the day CRPF personnel allegedly beat up two motorcyclists, who were rescued by the women of the area. Later they were admitted to hospital.
